The cat that we often talk about in everyday life, in cultural and religious life is a domestic cat (Felis sil-vestris catus).
In 2007, a scientific study showed that almost all domestic cats are native to African wild cats (Felis silvestris lybica). Cat bodies were found buried under their owners in thousands of ancient tombs in Egypt. A cat carcass was found in a tomb dating back 9,500 years ago. Thus, the time when cats became friends with humans was certainly much earlier, before the pyramid.
From ancient times, the Egyptians had a cult of cats as a god, called the Bastet. This is the cat-head goddess, human body, with power in many fields. The cat was buried by the Egyptians in the tombs to pray for Bastet to help the dead be reincarnated.
From Egypt, the domesticated cat was brought by merchants across Asia along the Silk Road.
