Due to the formation of the guitar and the complete string system with six single strings, both guitar composition and performing arts developed rapidly. Geniuses appear in all schools. In Italy there are Giuliani, Carulli, Carcassi, Paganini..and in Spain there must be D Aguado, Sor. Especially Sor, a musician from the rich harmony of Piano but composing and creating a great treasure for guitar. It can be said that the first half of 19 is the second golden age of the guitar.
In 1854, the guitar had a new structure (as it is today) with excellent acoustics and sounds. An artist named Antonio Torres has researched to find out how to configure the guitar and the art of wood refining. The instruments that sound both beautiful and standard appear. It took decades to discover Torres’s piano-making tips. During this period, however, the guitar was most thriving in France, not Spain. Paris brings together the most famous musicians.
But not long after, symphonic orchestras appeared, the superiority of piano volume, the superiority of the violin’s melody pushed the guitar into an urgent situation. The weight of the guitar work is no match for the other types of guitars. And people thought that the guitar was over.
But in luck, the works of the other instruments (Albeniz, Granados …) in the 20th century were rewritten for the guitar but very effective. Looking from this current perspective, perhaps the guitar just shrugged back 1 forward 2.
In this situation, a musician with great merit, Napoleon Coste (1806-1883, French) still wrote for the guitar, still quietly researching even though the guitar was less popular.
But then “after the rain, it will light again”, a ray of light from the end of the tunnel began to appear. That is Tarrega. F.Tarrega (1852-1909) is considered to be the third revival of the guitar. He is completely successful with the piano in both performing and theoretically composing but chooses the guitar to engage. It was a brave, dangerous, yet glorious decision.
Tarrega and his two main disciples, Llobet and Pujol, have rewritten famous pieces for the guitar. They co-composed, performed, and called for the guitar movement.
