A bundle of firewood costs about 20,000 VND, a day to do crunches, about 4 to 6 bundles, average 80,000 to 120,000 VND / person. However, for many days of sitting idle because of the rain or wind, or late on the train, when sick or in accident, “salary is not equal to medicine money”. Many days I did not see the ship and had to stay at the edge of the forest. Such is the danger, but the woodcutting profession has persisted for more than 50 years. Currently more than 25 families living near Kim Lien station daily still cling to this arduous profession to make a living.
Mr. Tran Van Khanh (60 years old) residing in group 6, Hoa Hiep Bac ward (Lien Chieu district) is said to be “old man” with over 45 years in woodcutting profession. He has been in this job since he was only 15 years old, until now at an old age, but he is still supple, with strong arms and legs. His life seemed to have tasted and witnessed all the hardships and hardships of the woodcutter’s life. He added: “About 12 years ago, not only the people here but many other places, they came here and jumped the train to the forest very crowded, seeing so extreme they gradually dropped out”. Mr. Tan, 23 years in the field of collecting firewood, confided: “It’s fine to have a job, but it’s less dangerous. Now he can dance quickly, but he can do it a little older. Going to work as a worker, they criticize the elderly, they do not accept. If anyone cannot go to the forest to find firewood, they will do so much more ”.
