My grandmother was deaf, but Bc she lost her hearing as an adult, she never learned ASL. I often think about how she used to tell me she wished she could hear what my voice sounded like. I love sign language and still remember some of it from over ten years ago! As a deaf woman, I “accidentally ignored” many people, too, who persisted nonetheless and became some of the very closest friends in my life. Beautiful story!
